What Is the D23 Expo?

D23 is the Official Fan Club for all things Disney. The “D” stands for Disney, of course, and the “23” is for 1923, the year that the Walt Disney Company was founded.

D23 is a great resource for information. It covers everything from movies and television to the Theme Parks to the Walt Disney Archives and so much more.

A company with a fan community as large as the one that Disney has needs to celebrate! That’s what the D23 Expo is all about. It’s a chance for tens of thousands of Disney fans to get together and celebrate all things Disney.

In the past, the D23 Expo was held every other year, on odd number years. The last one was held in 2019. The decision was made to hold the next D23 Expo in 2022 instead of 2021, because things were still up in the air with covid-19.

The next D23 Expo will take place September 9, 10, and 11, 2022. It will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center.

During past D23 Expos, there have been plenty of panels that are full of information. New Disney Legends are honored. Sneak peeks are shared for upcoming movies, with the casts. There are plenty of announcements about the Disney Theme Parks around the world.

There are smaller panels as well. These could include voice actors from the Theme Parks, question and answer sessions with Imagineers, or information on the latest books from Disney Publishing.

The show floor is another highlight. There are demonstrations and exhibits that will take you deeper into your favorite part of Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and beyond. Many of the exhibits are interactive.

There is also special merchandise for sale. Some of it is official, while more is from vendors. There are plenty of unique items that you will find only at the D23 Expo.

Tickets for the 2022 D23 Expo will go on sale on January 20. Historically, some categories have sold out quickly. If you are a D23 Gold Member, you will receive a discount.

I’ve been to the D23 Expo twice in the past, and can’t wait for September. This is an event that I highly recommend.
