Disney World Confirms New Muppets Additions at Hollywood Studios, Starting August 11
The Muppets have been part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios for a very long time, and the shape of that presence keeps changing.
For decades, it lived on the Streets of America, turned into Muppets Courtyard. That corner of the park had a specific charm to it, the kind of quiet, slightly offbeat area that regulars found their way to on purpose. It is closed for good now, and the space is being transformed into a Monsters, Inc. area, which is a real loss for anyone who spent time there.
But the Muppets did not leave the park. They moved. The gang made the jump to Sunset Boulevard with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, which put them on one of the highest-profile attractions in the entire park rather than tucked into a courtyard.
It is a bigger stage, and Disney is leaning into it. Which brings us to some good news for Annual Passholders.
Walt Disney World has revealed a slate of Kermit the Frog offerings coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios exclusively for Annual Passholders, and the headliner is the first-ever Muppet Passholder magnet.
When You Can Get the Kermit Passholder Magnet at Hollywood Studios
The offerings run from August 11 through September 24.
Passholders can pick up the Kermit magnet at Mickey Shorts Theater from park open to park close, while supplies last.
That last part deserves emphasis. Passholder magnets have a history of disappearing quickly, particularly those tied to a character with this kind of following. If the magnet is the reason for your trip, go early in the window rather than late in September.
There is a limit of one magnet per Passholder.
What You Need to Bring
The requirements are straightforward but worth knowing before you show up.
Passholders must be present and show their valid Annual Pass card, linked MagicBand or MagicBand+, or MagicMobile pass, along with a government-issued photo ID.
No sending a friend to grab one for you. You need to be there.
The Passholder-Exclusive PhotoPass Magic Shot at Hollywood Studios
The magnet is not the only thing on offer.
A Passholder-exclusive PhotoPass Magic Shot will be set up near the end of Hollywood Boulevard, close to Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Here is how it works. Guests hold a banjo prop for the photo, and Kermit gets added to the image afterward. Anyone who knows the Muppets knows exactly which moment that references, and it is a genuinely charming setup.
To access the Magic Shot, Passholders must present their Annual Pass ID in the “Tickets and Passes” section of their My Disney Experience app, plus a valid government-issued photo ID.
Note the difference in hours. The magnet is available park open to park close, but the Magic Shot only runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you want both, plan your day around the narrower window.
The Key Lime Kermit Milk Shake
There is also something to eat, or drink in this case.
Dockside Diner at Hollywood Studios is serving the Key Lime Kermit Milk Shake, made with Vanilla Ice Cream, Key Lime Cake Crumbs, Key Lime Sauce, and Sprinkles.
Passholders must present their valid Annual Pass ID in the My Disney Experience app, along with a photo ID, to purchase.
Key lime is an inspired choice here. It gets you the green without leaning on artificial coloring, and it is a flavor that actually works in August heat, which is more than can be said for some seasonal offerings.
Why the Muppets Are Everywhere at Hollywood Studios Right Now
All of this follows the opening of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.
That reimagining moved the Muppets onto Sunset Boulevard and gave them the kind of placement they never had before. Muppets Courtyard was beloved, but it was also a destination you had to seek out. Sunset Boulevard is a main artery of the park, and everyone walking toward the Tower of Terror passes right by it.
So the timing of these Passholder perks makes sense. Disney has a newly reimagined headliner attraction and a character lineup with decades of goodwill behind it, and the Passholder program is a natural way to keep that momentum going through late summer.
How to Plan Your Hollywood Studios Visit
If you are going for all three offerings, here is the practical shape of the day.
Mickey Shorts Theater for the magnet, available all day. Hollywood Boulevard near Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway for the Magic Shot, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Dockside Diner for the milkshake, which is on Echo Lake and easy to fold into either.
All three are in the front half of the park, so this does not require a lot of crossing back and forth.
Have your pass and photo ID ready for each stop. All three offerings require verification, and having the app already open to the Tickets and Passes section saves time at the Magic Shot in particular.
Mark the Dates
August 11 is when everything begins. September 24 is the end date.
Six weeks sounds like plenty of runway, but the magnet is limited while supplies last, and that is the piece most likely to run out early.
For Passholders who grew up on the Muppets and watched Muppets Courtyard close, this is a decent consolation. The characters are still here, they are on a bigger stage than before, and there is finally a magnet to show for it.
