10 Hidden Gems At Disneyland Park

Country Bear Jamboree

9. “Bear” witness to the details

Winnie the Pooh isn’t the only “silly old bear” hanging around Critter Country. In fact, prior to 1988 Critter Country was actually named Disneyland’s Bear Country.

And before what is now the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh became what it is, this beloved bear attraction was another beloved bear attraction of a different kind. From 1972 to 1986 it was the site for the Country Bear Jamboree. Though Pooh has since taken center stage, you’ll still find several nods to the former within the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh attraction as well as at the Pooh Corner mercantile. While riding along there is a part when you come to the Heffalump & Wuzzle Honey Room. As you leave the room take a quick turn around and look up at the wall. Here you will see Max the deer, Buff the buffalo, and Melvin the moose—the animatronic head trophies from the original Country Bear Jamboree. Once at Pooh Corner, take a look inside the confectioner’s kitchen and you will see a painting of Winnie the Pooh and Gomer—the Country Bear piano-player. There’s also a painting with Winnie the Pooh and Teddi Barra—the show’s star performer. On another note, the sign that reads “The Swinging Arcade” is another nod to Teddi Barra and her famous act in which she was lowered from the ceiling on a swing.
